When we experience a heart break, it can be hard to understand our feelings and how to express them. Poetry has helped me with my healing process because during those moments, when I didn’t know how to explain my pain and sadness, the words on the pages of my poetry books spoke to me.
It was like the poets were in my head. They knew all the right things to say, when I did not.
Poetry has helped me through sadness, struggle, growing pains and so much more. It’s something to relate to when you feel completely alone. It is comforting to know you are not alone in your journey, and other people have also experienced the same things.
Today, I am sharing a couple of my favorite poems that helped me through heartbreak. These can be applied to relationships, life and love, in general.
Let’s mend your broken heart.
“ I let her go because I knew she could do better and now she’s gone I wonder if I should’ve just been better.” – Atticus
“Eventually the girl you took for granted will take her love and give it to herself and someday someone better than you will love her in all the ways you couldn’t.” – r.h. sin
“I was the ocean, you wanted rivers. I was the moon, you chased the sun.” – r.h. sin
“No more giving everything to the one person who makes you feel like nothing. No more attempting to fill yourself with someone who will leave you empty. No more forcing love in places where your heart doesn’t belong.” – r.h. Sin
“Her lips didn’t have to move, her silence told her story of a woman who reached a breaking point and was no longer willing to fight for someone who didn’t deserve her effort.” – r.h. sin
“It happens too much the doing of so much for someone who makes you feel like your everything is never enough.” – r.h. sin
“We give people multiple chances hoping that they’ll change, I don’t know if it speaks less of them for taking advantage or less of us for refusing to accept who they are.” -Samantha King
“It hurts right now, you’re tired of going through the same old shit. Your heart is weary, but you’re still powerful. Strong enough to walk away, strong enough to make it without the person you thought you needed.” – r.h. sin
“Day by day i realize everything i miss about you was never there in the first place – the person i fell in love with was a mirage” – Rupi Kaur
“Love was never her weakness. Love was just a strength that she’d wasted on weak people.” -r.h sin
“Sometimes you have to move on from people you think you love and sometimes you have to put your well-being first…no matter how bad it hurts. so please, don’t be afraid to walk away and don’t be afraid of starting over. you must protect your heart and your energy, always, and at all cost.” – r.m. drake
“you lost her and it wasn’t because she was hard to hold, or love, or touch but because she was made of your absence, of all the things you ignored and all the beautiful poetry you read but failed to understand.” -r.m. drake
As you may notice, some of my favorite poets are r.h sin and r.m. drake. I seemed to connect most deeply with their words. I will link some of my favorite pieces below:
@rmdrk – his instagram feed is where I pull a lot of the poems from.
@rhsin – same with his work.
She Felt Like Feeling Nothing – r.h. sin
Empty Bottles Full of Stories – r.m. drake + r.h. sin
I Hope This Reaches Her in Time – r.h. sin
If you are going through a break up or relationship issues, I hope these words resonate with your soul. You deserve happiness and you are enough, never forget this. You will heal in time.
