Hello Beautiful Humans,
I’m constantly listening to Gary Vee, one of my favorite entrepreneurs and motivational speakers, to find inspiration and motivation as I navigate my young adult life. Gary always talks about how he loves the process more than the actual winning aspect of life. He also explains how failure gives him, and others, a platform to comeback and prove people wrong. He loves that.
His message has allowed to me to change my perspective during this time in my life. As I have talked about a lot in my recent posts, I am looking/waiting for my “next step”. However, I’m not really sure what that is. This makes it kind of a hectic time for me, as an anxious person.
I’ve come to learn that having the perspective to enjoy the process rather than focus on getting to one final goal brings more happiness to your day-to-day life. Being only 20-something, this gives me time to fail and really learn my passions.
Well, I don’t want to literally fail but what I mean is figure out the things that I am good at, and the things I am not. I have to remind myself that I am only 21 with a double degree and 60-70 years ahead of me, why am I so panicked!?
I’ve been wanting to create more content for PYM lately, but I don’t want to keep this tone of being in the “in between”. However, that’s the truth for me right now. I always want to share relevant, real topics and this is very real. I’m not going to pretend I have got it all together when I still have so much to learn and figure out. I will say, I am “figuring it out” day by day. Gary Vee has reminded me to focus my energy on each day, rather than fearing the next 3 months ahead.
When you graduate college there is this huge pressure to go straight into a 9-5 type job, which works for some people. It’s secure and comfortable but why are we so quick to jump into that lifestyle? We have so much time to work a 9-5, what’s wrong with hopping around to a few things for awhile?
I’ve been mulling over this idea as I am navigating my future and opportunities that arise. I wanted to write this post specifically to explain how focusing your energy to the present, more so than the “bigger” idea, can bring more happiness to your everyday life. I have a personal example of how my perspective on this “in between” recently changed.
Manifesting Opportunity
So, basically every week day I am hunting for jobs, emailing connections and applying. I have been keeping my focus on what I want – a job. Although this is true, I’m finding there are so many opportunities, if you are just patient and persistent.
This past week, I had the opportunity to work the Dallas Apparel + Accessories Market with the wholesale clothing brand, &Merci. It was literally the most perfect opportunity!
My dream is to work in the fashion or apparel industry, and this was the perfect taste of that world. I could not have asked for a better opportunity during my time in Dallas. This is exactly why I believe in the Law of Attraction. We get so wrapped up in trying to do what everyone around us is doing or telling us to do that we miss simple opportunities like so.
Never forget that the energy you put off is what you attract, BE POSITIVE!
Subconsciously, I knew I would needed to make some money to sustain myself but I didn’t expect anything like this. I was patient in my search for temp gigs, and this one happened to fall into place.
Okay, Okay…
My point: Do we really need to rush our goals or next steps in life? If so, why?
Maybe if we all calmed down for a minute and enjoyed the process in reaching our goals, we could find more happiness and less stress in our day-to-day life. Like I mentioned, I want to stop writing about this transitioning in my life but I think maybe my voice is important in demonstrating how it’s not all rainbows and butterflies after college. There are bumps and your perfect job doesn’t just “happen”.
If you find a position right after school and it works for your life, do it. If you don’t, don’t stress it. Your opportunity is coming, perhaps you are meant to explore this transition period to find yourself a little more. If you found a job right out of college and it didn’t work out, that’s okay too. It wasn’t meant to be!
Just remember to enjoy the process as you build your personal empire, no matter what detours you take or what failures you endure. Just know you have time, whether you’re 21 or 40. Don’t rush your process. Your journey will be different from those around you but that doesn’t mean it is wrong. Remain confident in yourself and your dreams.
As I always say, never give up!
